Economic Cooperation
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975, China has been providing development assistance to Bangladesh through loans and grants for critical infrastructure projects across various sectors such as communication, railway, power, energy, water and sewerage, ICT, and shipping. Chinese investments are involved in jute & textiles mills, power generation, coal mining, construction, physical infrastructure, ICT, port development, waste management etc. The Government of China has been providing significant grant assistance for the construction of Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridges, international-standard conference and Exhibition Centers. During the visit of the Chinese President H. E. Mr. Xi Jinping to Bangladesh in 2016, 27 (twenty-seven) agreements / MOU were signed on 16 October 2016. An MoU signed under title “Strengthening and Production capacity Cooperation” was a landmark in economic cooperation between two countries.
